This week, all Grade 1-5 classes are listening to a sampling of the audiobook version of Spy Dog by Andrew Cope. BIFS library is looking at getting a subscription to a downloadable audiobook site and we need to find out how many students might be interested in such a service. Many of our students travel for quite a long time each day on the bus, and listening to an audiobook on their IPods or phones, might be an enjoyable way to pass the time, and enhance literacy skills. Please let Mrs Toms know if you are interested in listening to audiobooks in your free time.
Many public libraries around the world provide downloadable audiobooks to members. If you are a member of a public library in your home country, you may be able to download and borrow audiobooks (for free) anywhere in the world. Check your library website, or visit them when you are next in your home country, and see if you can download audiobooks from their library website.
If not, there are many places on the Internet where you can buy excellent audiobooks. The Itunes store has some excellent stories like the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan, Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan and many more. Go to books>audiobooks>top children and young adult books, or search for a title or author.
http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/store.html has a list of many online vendors of audiobooks, but some books are not available if you don’t have a U.S. credit card. Just check which ones are available for your region.
You can also get some some audiobooks for free at http://www.booksshouldbefree.com/genre/Children
Remember to let Mrs Toms know if you would like to listen to audiobooks. Trying something new can reflect the PYP attitudes of curiosity and appreciation!
