ELC classes this week read the hilarious story, “Stand Back,” said the Elephant, “I’m Going to Sneeze!” by Patricia Thomas and illustrated by Wallace Tripp. For each of the books we read this year, we’re going to identify which PYP attitudes we think are reflected in the book. For this book we chose cooperation, curiosity and respect.
The reason for curiosity is that we wanted to know the differences between Asian and African elephants, and there is a very informative page and picture to colour from Enchanted Learning here.
Talking of respect, reading this book was a good opportunity to talk about why we should cover our mouth when we sneeze. We also found out that elephants do sneeze sometimes and we watched a video of a baby elephant that looks like it is sneezing! You can watch it here:
